APIA on the test track

The Automotive Systems division of the Continental AG developed its integrated safety approach by networking all active and passive safety systems under one keyword: APIA (Active Passive Integration Approach).

With the help of a dummy on a preceding vehicle (above photo) that can swivel away upwards, experts can "experience" the APIA principle on the test track. In this project, Continental networks complex technologies to enhance driving safety.

Several elements of APIA can already be found on production vehicles, and the project itself is currently in development for production applications. Jürgen Diebold: "In the future, systems networking will experience huge advances in development.

The "seeing" car of the future will feature onboard intelligence, data interchange with other vehicles, and telematics information, allowing it to actively avoid a large proportion of potential accidents."
