For modern cars, and older ones with additional equipment retrofit.

The power required by electrical consumers in a car has steadily increased over the last ten years. Bosch now developed a "HighTec" battery with AGM technology for a reliable power supply of modern cars at start-up and during all driving modes.

AGM stands for Absorbent Glass Mat, a non-woven fabric made of micro-fine fiberglass which safely absorbs sulphuric acid in lead accumulators and prevents any leakage. AGM batteries have already demonstrated as original equipment that they are deep-cycle resistant. They may be recharged up to 300 times, which is three times more than conventional starter batteries. The new battery line is, moreover, absolutely maintenance free, spill and leakage proof and extremely shock resistant.

New "HighTec" battery
in brief

Reliable energy and starter supply specifically in passenger cars with numerous and high-power electrical consumers.

Deep-cycle resistant, leakage proof and enduring thanks to AGM technology with steady electrolyte.

Two battery types provide more than 90 percent market coverage – based on cars with AGM batteries as original equipment.

The Bosch HighTec is available in two types starting October, which will provide an overall market coverage of 90 percent – based on cars that are already fitted with AGM batteries as original equipment. The battery type with 70 amp.hr. capacity supplies a starter current of 760 amps, the 95 amp.hr. battery delivers 850 amps when starting the engine.

The reason why there is such an increased demand for electrical power is explained by the growing number of electrical and electronic safety and convenience systems in the motor vehicle. They help to make passenger cars safer, more economic and more comfortable – however, they increase the consumption in electrical energy. In a modern middle-class car, the power consumption reaches more than 3,500 watts. In the Nineties, the value for a lower medium-sized passenger car merely amounted to 950 watts.

HighTec batteries are not only advisable for state-of-the-art cars with high power consumption, but in some cases also to be recommended for older passenger cars if, for example, auxiliary heating is retrofitted. The HighTec battery will not only guarantee permanent and continuous energy supply of these functions but furthermore provide great reliability for starting.
