Roomster: a promising fourth model line for Skoda.

Motion Trends,
9th February 2006.

Skoda Auto will enter a new segment with its fourth model family, the Roomster, which will make its debut at the 2006 Geneva motor show (public days: 2-12 March).

Scheduled for launch in Europe this summer, the new Roomster represents a significant step for Skoda Auto which achieved last year an 8.95 % growth of its worldwide deliveries (492,111 units) of its three current models, the Fabia small car, lower medium Octavia and larger Superb.

The Roomster made its first appearance as a design study at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in 2003. In the light of positive response, a decision was taken to develop the production car and, less than two and a half years later, Skoda is now introducing its new Roomster to the public in Geneva.

Roomster: variable interior, fresh design and Varioflex rear seat facility.

The Roomster car concept is unique with its variable interior, young, fresh design, vast luggage compartment, generous storage space, flexible Varioflex rear seat facility... and, as usually expected from Skoda, value for money.

Customers will be able to choose between three petrol engines and three other diesel ones, with a manual or automatic gearbox.

The Roomster will be manufactured in the Kvasiny plant. At first, the car will be put on the most important European markets including the Czech Republic in the summer of 2006.

With the new 4th model range, the Roomster, Skoda (part of the VW group) can expect to make a significant leap forward in volume terms.

Skoda's main growth last year (8.95%, from 451,675 units in 2004 to 492,111 unit last year) came thanks to the new Octavia which registered 28.42% sales growth (233,322 units) compared to 2004 (181,683), while figures dropped slightly for the two other models, the Fabia (-4.4%, from 247,600 in 2004 to 236,698 units last year) and Superb (-1.34%, from 22,392 to 22,091).
