New Ford Ka launch at the 2008 Mondial

2009 Ford Ka in Panama for the new James Bond adventure, ‘Quantum of Solace’.

Olga Kurylenko plays Camille, a woman with her own personal mission and who quickly becomes an unlikely ally for Bond.

The launch of the film coincides with the launch of the all-new Ford Ka.

New Ka to start with a James Bond adventure

The new James Bond adventure, ‘Quantum of Solace’, will feature the all-new Ford Ka next month.

Ford’s new small car will make its screen debut alongside the film's beautiful leading lady, Olga Kurylenko, who plays Camille, a woman with her own personal mission and who quickly becomes an unlikely ally for Bond.

The 'Quantum of Solace' Ka features metallic gold paint with an exclusive exterior graphics and interior trim combination.

“The new Ka is the perfect match for the character of Camille – adventurous, individual and thoroughly modern,” said Ingvar Sviggum, Vice President for Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe.  “We are delighted that the launch of the film coincides with the launch of such a significant new model for Ford of Europe.”

The Ka’s cameo continues Ford of Europe's relationship with the James Bond films, following the debut appearance of the latest Ford Mondeo, in the 2006 blockbuster, ‘Casino Royale’.

‘Quantum of Solace’ is produced for EON Productions by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Directed by Marc Forster, the film stars Daniel Craig as the legendary secret agent, James Bond and opens in the UK and France on October 31st, then across the rest of Europe during November 2008.

23 September 2008.

The all-new Ford Ka makes its global debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show (public days 4-19 October 2008), a few days before making its screen debut in the new James Bond film, ‘Quantum of Solace’, which opens in the UK and France on October 31st, then across the rest of Europe during November 2008

Replacing the iconic original Ka which was based on an earlier Fiesta generation and launched in 1996, the all-new Ka retains its small size (B-segment, sub-compact in U.S. classification terms), cute looks and fun personality, but with a fresh all-new package. Production starts this autumn and the vehicle will go on sale in most major European markets in late 2008/early 2009.

New Ka combines Ford’s latest design with some of the spirit which made the original so popular.

Designed for a young target audience, the all-new Ka has the same compact proportions as its predecessor. A number of visual cues from the outgoing car ensure that the new design is recognisably a Ka, with the new kinetic design touch.

Bold contrasts and expressive colours have been selected to reflect the tastes of the typical Ka customer. On the practical side, interior space welcomes four adults with their belongings. The driver gets a high seating position for better visibility.

The all-new Ford Ka has been developed as part of a common project with Fiat. The vehicle is produced at the modern Fiat manufacturing plant in Tychy, Poland, sharing the platform and production line with the new Fiat Panda and Fiat 500 models.

However, Ford’s own chassis engineering experts have tuned the suspension, steering, and chassis. Final testing was conducted using a combination of public roads, proving grounds and race tracks – including the Nürburgring in Germany.

During the engineering process, information was exchanged with the team developing the all-new Fiesta (which shares its platform with the new Mazda2), and certain components, such as the tyres, were jointly developed for both models.

Ford says the all-new Ka is designed to be cheap to run and environmentally friendly, with two economical, low emission engines: a 1.2-litre 69 PS Duratec petrol engine and, for the first time on Ka, a 1.3-litre 75 PS Duratorq TDCi turbodiesel. Both petrol and diesel models are available with under 120g/km CO2 emissions.

Young, stylish and... quite tempting!

Ford expects the 1.2-litre petrol model to be the largest seller in the all-new range. It has cut fuel consumption by 21 per cent compared to the previous 1.3-litre Ka.

The diesel model – available on the Ka for the first time achieves a combined fuel consumption of 67.2mpg (imperial mpg, 4.2 litres/100 km, 23.8km/litre).

The body shell has been developed to provide a strong, stable crash structure to protect passengers. It is combined with what Ford calls "Intelligent Protection System" (IPS), which integrates airbags, restraint systems and seating technologies to provide a highly effective occupant safety system.

Versions -  In general, the new Ford Ka is available in Ambiente or Titanium series, complemented with a number of option packs for additional choice. In the UK, there will be four series –Studio, Style, Style + and Zetec, also with additional option packs to choose from.

With the optional Bluetooth-enabled Connectivity Kit, the Ka comes with Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, a USB port to play music files through the sound system and steering wheel controls.

A six-speaker CD sound system is also optionnally available, as well as a heated windscreen and heated seats for cold winter conditions.

The original Ka was launched at the 1996 Paris Motor Show, and was immediately acclaimed for its “all-new Edge” styling at the time.

Sales soon took off across Europe, and the Ka gained popularity quickly, with a total of over 1,460,000 vehicles produced. In the UK alone, the Ka has found 500,000 customers, and has been segment leader since 2000.

Derivatives, such as the StreetKa and SportKa models (opposite) expanded the Ka family, and helped to broaden the model’s appeal. Based on Ford research, Ka customers have the highest customer brand loyalty of any Ford model.
