gets the “Start&Stop” system.
Before its launch throughout Europe
this spring, the all-new Fiat 500C (C for convertible
or cabriolet, but with fixed roof frame and structure on both sides) has a
rendez-vous in Switzerland first, for its worldwide
preview at the 79th Geneva Motor Show (5 to 15 March

choices, with manual or robotised
Under its Italian elegance, the
2009 Fiat 500C features an innovative soft top, with
electrically operated linkage and a glass backlight
with a built-in, centre high mounted stop light.
Available in three colours (ivory,
red and black), the soft top can be matched with
several bodywork colour schemes. The Pearl Red and the
special Warm Grey typical of sports supercars have
been conceived specifically for the 500C.
In size and engine terms, the new
Fiat 500C comes like the basic 500 model (3.55 m x
1.65 m x 1.49 m), with the same three engines, one
diesel and two petrol (gasoline) ones:

leaves space for luggage even with the
top fully open.
- 1.3 litre 75 hp Multijet
Turbodiesel coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission,
- 1.2 litre 69 hp and 1.4 litre 100 hp petrol
(gasoline) engines, available with either manual or
robotised Dualogic transmission.
To reduce fuel consumption and
emissions, the new 500C benefits from the “Start&Stop”
system to momentarily shutdown the engine (in traffic
jams or at traffic lights for instance) then restart
it automatically as soon as the driver can move
forward. When the driver shifts to neutral and
releases the clutch, the engine is switched off, then
restarted simply by pressing down the clutch pedal
again and selecting a gear.
Designed by the Fiat Styling Centre
and manufactured at the Tichy plant in Poland, the
500C can welcome four adults with some luggage even with the soft top fully open,
thanks to the parallelogram hinge device of the
sliding soft top.
