Most certainly, you've heard a lot recently about the 40th anniversary of the first human steps on the moon, on the 20th of July 1969.

But if the 40th Anniversary of the first moon landing is already over, a special vehicle has just started another mission, an earthly one this time. Welcome the Chevrolet Captiva Moonlander.

Tuned by, the official supplier of Chevrolet for autogas (LPG, liquefied petroleum gas) systems since 2004, the compact Captiva Moonlander sports utility (SUV) celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing with a limited edition of 40 Captiva Moonlanders, one for each of the 40 years.

The lowered body sits on white-painted 8Jx20 ten-spoke wheels.

With prices starting from 21,500 Euros, the standard equipment includes a dual-mode engine system that runs on petrol (gasoline) or autogas (LPG, also known as Automotive LPG), with either the four-cylinder 2.4-litre engine or the 3.2 V6, automatic climate control, a stereo system, an iPod and a replica of a space suit complete with helmet.


The dual-mode engine allows operation of the five-door compact crossover with either petrol (gasoline) or autogas (LPG). says that in autogas mode, the Moonlander delivers fuel-cost savings of up to more than 50 percent, depending on local fuel prices. The clean-burning autogas also reduces CO2 emissions by some 12 percent, lowering also emission-based vehicle taxes.

The limited-edition series features a white Moonlander placard with the vehicle’s serial number and an iPod.

The entry-level model is powered by the 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with 100 kW / 134 bhp / 136 hp. Power is transferred to the front wheels via a five-speed automatic gearbox.

With the 3.2-litre V6 engine, the Moonlander 3.2  delivers 169 kW / 227 bhp / 230 hp and a peak torque of 297 Nm at 3,200 rpm. Featuring a five-speed automatic gearbox with permanent four-wheel drive, the Moonlander 3.2 sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 204 km/h (where local conditions and law permit it).




Outside, the Captiva Moonlander is based on the colour scheme of the Apollo 11 rocket. The exterior comes in a two-tone colour scheme painted universe white / orbiter black, as are the “MANNED MISSION LUNAR VEHICLE” decals and the names of the Apollo 11 crew members on the silver-mirrored rear side windows.

The lowered body sits on white-painted 8Jx20 ten-spoke wheels with black Moonlander emblem and 245/40 R 20 tires, all part of the standard equipment of the limited-edition Moonlander.

Sport springs matching the high-performance tires lower the ride height of the Captiva by some 35 millimetres, further optimizing handling thanks to the lowered centre of gravity.

The interior of all 40 vehicles in this limited-edition series features a white Moonlander placard with the vehicle’s serial number and an iPod.
