- Rather than targeting it as a niche model, Audi says that it expects to
sell the A5 Sportback in more "solid volumes", especially that
the 2.0 TFSI with 132 kW (180 hp) starts from 33,650 euros, before the 1.8
TFSI follows in 2010 as the new entry-level model of the A5 family at a
more affordable price.
Of course, "solid volume" is meant here in
the sense that can be used by a luxury brand like Audi, not the one that
can be understood from a generalist brand such as Volkswagen, Ford or
Renault for instance.

hp) with 6-speed manual transmission, 42,150 euros for the 2.0 TFSI (155
kW / 211 hp) quattro with 7-speed S tronic and 47,000 euros for the 3.2
FSI quattro with S tronic.
The diesel models will be launched at 36,050 euros for
the 2.0 TDI with 6-speed manual transmission, 39,300 euros for the 2.7 TDI
with 6-speed manual transmission and 47,950 euros for the 3.0 TDI
quattro with 7-speed S tronic.
The base version of the A5 Sportback comes standard
with 17-inch alloy wheels, a tire pressure monitoring display, fold-down
rear seat backs, an automatic air conditioning system, a leather sport
steering wheel and the chorus audio system including a CD player and eight
designed, with many options for customization.
Other standard equipments include an electromechanical
parking brake, six airbags, belt tensioners and force limiters, Isofix
child seat preparation, the recuperation system for the recovery of
braking energy, fog lights, heated and power-adjustable exterior mirrors,
four power windows and an intelligent ignition key that automatically
stores service-relevant data.
The 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TFSI with manual transmission come
with the start-stop system and a driver information system with efficiency
program. It includes a gear-change indicator similar to the one found in
the other versions with manual transmissions.
An electronic differential lock is integrated into the
ESP stabilization programs in front-wheel drive versions to enhance
dynamics and traction.
Models having engines producing at least 140 kW (190
hp) come standard with the servotronic steering which automatically adapts
steering boost to the driving speed, and xenon plus headlights combined
with LEDs for the daytime running lights and the tail lights.
The list of available options includes adaptive light
that supplements the xenon plus headlights with dynamic cornering lights,
a high-beam assistant which automatically switches between the low and the
high beam depending on oncoming traffic, a convenience key which can now
stay in the jacket pocket with the doors opened by radio and the car
started by pushing a button, the starting assist function with additional
functions to the electromechanically parking brake, and an automatic air
conditioning regulating the temperature in three separate interior zones.
Other options include side airbags in the back, a light
and rain sensor, an interior lighting package with discreet lamps, an
auxiliary heating system and an alarm system, the Audi drive select

control, and two conventional sport suspensions. Wheels are available in
17, 18, 19 and 20 inch sizes.
Optional assistance systems offer the adaptive cruise
control with the integrated Audi braking guard, using radar technology to
maintain the distance to the car in front. The integrated Audi braking
guard provides the driver with advance warning of an impending collision
and assists with braking.
Audi's optional side assist also uses radar to make
lane changes safer. It uses a camera to help the driver stay in the lane.
The Audi advanced parking system uses the rear-view
camera to display the area behind the car on the onboard monitor.
On the multimedia side, options offer a system of
modules with expansion possibilities.
The first multimedia module comes with the concert
radio, CD and memory card readers for music files, an AUX-in port for
connecting an MP3 player, a 6.5-inch colour monitor and eight speakers.
The symphony radio adds a six-disc CD changer.
Right above, the MMI navigation reads data from a DVD,
includes a colour display, a slot for memory cards and voice control. It
can be upgraded to include a digital radio receiver, a CD changer, a
high-performance Bluetooth link for cell phones and an interface for the
full integration of an iPod. A centre-mounted colour display in the
instrument panel is also available here.
The top-of-the-line MMI navigation plus brings a
high-resolution, seven-inch colour monitor which presents the map in
either a conventional or a topographic view; city models and points of
interest are shown in 3D. A 40 GB hard drive stores the map data, the
music files and the user’s contacts. The voice input system recognizes
whole words. The radio module features a multiple tuner, and there is a
player for audio and video DVDs that can be controlled via a special
joystick function for the MMI control unit.
A number of expansion modules are also available for
the MMI navigation plus, such as an analogue/digital TV tuner. The luxury
sound system from Bang & Olufsen features a 505 watt 10-channel
amplifier powering 14 high-performance speakers.
