2011 Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan rolls on U.S. roads...
While the 5-door hatch fancies Paris for its world premiere

2011 Chevrolet Cruze LTZ (four-door sedan).

10 September 2010: While the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze sedan arrives at U.S. dealerships this month, another version is preparing its way in Europe, with the forthcoming Cruze 5-door hatchback unveiling at the 2010 Paris Motor Show (public days 2-17 October).

GM says that the Cruze highway fuel economy should range from 35 to an expected 40 miles per (US) gallon (from 42 to 48 UK mpg, 6.72 to 5.88 litres/100 km, 14.88 to 17 km/litre - conversions are based on figures).

 Cruze LS

Cruze LT and LTZ get the 1.4L Ecotec turbocharged engine.

Starting from US$16,995 (incl. destination charges), the Cruze LS features a 1.8L Ecotec engine, rated at 138 horsepower (103 kW) and 123 lb.-ft. of torque (168 Nm) at 3,800 rpm.

With the standard six-speed manual transmission, the 1.8L will deliver, according to GM, an EPA-estimated:

- 26 miles per gallon city (31.2 UK mpg, 9.05 litres/100 km, 11.05 km/litre) and
- 36 mpg highway (43.2 UK mpg, 6.5 litres/100 km, 15.3 km/litre).

Standard 10 air bags, StabiliTrak electronic stability control...

With the available six-speed automatic, the 1.8L will deliver an EPA-estimated:

- 22 mpg city  (26.4 UK mpg, 10.69 litres/100 km, 9.35 km/litre) and
- 35 mpg highway  (42 UK mpg, 6.72 litres/100 km, 14.88 km/litre).

Standard Cruze LS equipment includes 10 air bags, StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover sensing, traction control, anti-lock brakes, collapsible pedal system, and OnStar with Automatic Crash Response.

 LT and LTZ

With the Cruze LT and LTZ models, the 1.4L Ecotec turbocharged engine delivers 138 horsepower (103 kW) and 148 lb.-ft. of torque (200 Nm) between 1,850 rpm and 4,900 rpm.

With a standard six-speed automatic, the engine delivers an EPA-estimated:

- 24 mpg city (28.8 UK mpg, 9.8 litres/100 km, 10.2 km/litre) and
- and 36 mpg highway (43.2 UK mpg, 6.5 litres/100 km, 15.3 km/litre).

 Cruze Eco

Going on sale later this year, the Cruze Eco model will be the most efficient model of the line-up. With the 1.4L turbo, a standard six-speed manual transmission, enhanced aerodynamics, weight optimization and reduced rolling resistance, the Cruze Eco is expected to deliver 40 miles per gallon on the highway (48 UK mpg, 5.88 litres/100 km, 17 km/litre).

GM figures indicate that more than 392,000 Cruze have been sold globally since it was originally introduced in late 2008 (including under the other GM brands, Korean Daewoo and Australian Holden). In China alone, Chevrolet has sold nearly 90,000 Cruze since the start of the year.

Cruze five-door hatchback: on sale across Europe mid 2011.

In Europe, a new 5-door hatchback Cruze will be unveiled at the 2010 Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris.

With a sweeping roofline and short overhangs at both the front and rear, the new Cruze hatchback has the same 'stance' as the saloon. Cargo capacity for the Cruze hatchback is close to 400 litres and will feature 60/40 split rear seating.

Adding an alternative body style to the traditional saloon, the new Chevrolet Cruze 5-door hatchback will go on sale across Europe mid 2011 with prices announced nearer the launch date.

According to Wayne Brannon, president and managing director of Chevrolet Europe, the potential is significant: "Cruze is turning out to be a real success story. We are selling it in 70 countries around the world and it has recently surpassed the Aveo as our top selling passenger car nameplate globally.

"Hatchbacks play a critical role in many markets. The total compact segment (C-segment, lower medium) in Europe represents around 4.8 million units which is over a quarter of the total market, with hatchbacks representing around 65% of that volume. We therefore expect to see increased business in a number of regions, while sending out a signal that Chevrolet is now a serious mainstream player in Europe."
