A man on a mission: Ultimate Drives
The quest to find the greatest driving roads

In October 2008 Top Gears challenge was to “the greatest driving roads”, this particular episode was met with an enormous following with over 1m YouTube hits alone, demonstrating the sheer volume of people looking to drive the best driver’s roads.

At around the same time Mark Heather, was in the process of selling his consultancy business in Zurich, Switzerland.

Now there are two types of people in the modern world: those who have their comfort zone, a happy but maybe predictable existence, and there are the others, those who see an opportunity, assess the risks then make a calculated decision to do something new.

Already a fan of driving and a connoisseur of the best driving roads in the Alps, having lived there since 2003, Mark went on a personal mission to continue and perfect what Top Gear had started, spending the next year seeking out, driving and assessing these roads.

From the iconic roads, such as the Stelvio Pass, in Italy and the San Bernadino in Switzerland, to the undiscovered gems, such as the Passo di Croci in Liguria, Route Canobia high above Lake Maggiore, to the frankly outrageous, such as the Route Montvernier near Grenoble, no stone (or corner) was left unturned.

During this time, the Ultimate Drives concept evolved into what was to become a business providing “a range of all inclusive luxury driving breaks, including car, hotel and driving itinerary” that allow you to experience the best driving roads in the world, from the Black Forest to the Côte d’Azur.

This unique concept, Ultimate Drives, has been in business since 2009. It has already been featured by numerous newspapers and magazines in the UK including the Financial Times, and is growing at a rate that is only fitting to a concept that is as exciting and original as this one.

Amidst an insecure financial climate, where starting a business is difficult as it ever has been, it is good to see that there is hope for anyone willing to take a leap of faith, outside of their comfort zone.
