World premiŤre at the 81st Geneva Motor Show
Mitsubishi Concept Global Small: A new compact for 2012

Mitsubishi Concept Global Small

Concept Global Small: compact passenger vehicle for 5 adults.

20 January 2011: At this year's Geneva International Motor Show (the 81st, with public days from 3 to 13 March, at the Geneva Palexpo exhibition and conference complex), Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will display eight models (including those already on sale in Europe), in addition to an interesting concept car: the Mitsubishi Concept Global Small vehicle.

 Concept Global Small

The Japanese brand says that the "Concept Global Small is the concept model of the compact passenger vehicle that is planned for production in March of 2012 at the MMC's new third factory in Thailand".

The main features of this compact passenger vehicle should include good manoeuvrability, affordability and easy operation in a body that can seat five adults, with high fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions in the mid-90g/km range.

Key elements of the promised efficiency and low emissions reside in the usage of an idling stop mechanism (stop and start), a 1.0 Ė 1.2L class compact engine with a regenerative braking system, weight reduction to the most complex parts, reduced running resistance in the engine, the new-generation CVT (continuously variable transmission), the brakes and tyres, as well as a body with reduced aerodynamic resistance.

New Mitsubishi i-MiEV

i-MiEV: 2,500 units shipped to Europe within three months.

Another important display for the three-diamonds brand will be its 100% electric i-MiEV (European-spec model), of which about 2,500 units have already been shipped to Europe within three months (including those sold by the French PSA group as Peugeot iOn and CitroŽn C-ZERO) since its start of production and shipment in October 2010.

Earlier this week, Mitsubishi announced that the European-spec i-MiEV (see also Electric i MiEV to boost Mitsubishi's urban, New Mitsubishi i-MiEV presentation and i-MiEV: Operating System and Configuration) went on sale in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.

With other requests coming from Finland, Serbia, Turkey, and Slovenia, Mitsubishi announced its plans to ship other i-MiEV units to these countries in the near future. Gradually, the vehicle will be introduced further within Mitsubishi Motors Europe's territory.

The other exhibited models include the ASX compact crossover (European-spec model, RVR in Japan, Outlander Sport in the United States. The platform will be also used for two models to be sold by Peugeot and  CitroŽn in 2012), the Outlander crossover (the Peugeot 4007 and  CitroŽn C-Crosser are based on the Outlander), the Pajero SUV (Montero or Shogun in some markets), the compact Lancer Sportback an Lancer Evolution, the subcompact Cold and the L200 pickup.
