Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid: More than 53 kms per litre
With 215hp for the front and 70hp electric rear axle drive

All-new Volvo V60

New Volvo V60: the new Plug-in Hybrid version should get up to 150  UK mpg (125 US mpg, 1.9 l/100 km, 53.10 km/l).

01 February 2011: Volvo Cars' V60 Plug-in Hybrid is expected to be one of the most significant models to be displayed at this year's Geneva Motor Show (public days from 3 to 13 March), after its reveal at a press conference on the first of March.

According to the Swedish brand, the virtually production-ready V60 Plug-in Hybrid emits less than 50 g/km carbon dioxide, which translates into fuel consumption of 150 miles per gallon (Volvo Car UK figures, imperial gallons, equivalent to about 125 US mpg, 1.9 litres/100 km, 53.10 km/litre conversion based on autopressnews.com figures).

Expected in the markets from next year, the V60 Plug-in Hybrid is engineered in close cooperation with the Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall, with the ambition to combine the properties of three different car types in one sports wagon, including the possibility for the driver to drive up to 32 miles (around 51 kms) on electricity alone.

The V60 Plug-in Hybrid features a six-speed automatic transmission. The front wheels will be driven by a five-cylinder 2.4-litre D5 turbodiesel, which produces 215 horsepower and a maximum torque of 440 Nm (325 lb-ft, 44.9 kg/m).

The rear axle features ERAD (Electric Rear Axle Drive) in the form of an electric motor producing 70 horsepower, which receives its power from a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
