02 February 2012: The first official pictures of the new Fiat 500L, the sister model of the cute 500 (L for "large") were unveiled today by the Italian car maker.

The new 500L will have its world preview at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show on 6 March, before it hits the European roads in the last quarter of this year.

Produced at the Fiat factory in Kragujevac, Serbia, the 500L is a further development of the ‘cab forward’ concept introduced by the Fiat 600 Multipla, one of the precursors of what is known as the small to compact monospace, minivan, MPV or people carrier.

Aimed as an alternative to the B- and C-segment cars.

The Italian brand says that with MPV passenger space, the feel of a small SUV and the dimensions and efficiency of a B segment (sub-compact) car, the new 500L aims to combine the characteristics of several categories as an alternative to the traditional B (sub-compact) and C (compact, lower medium) segments.

In other words, the new 500L corresponds to what is also called a "crossover" between several segments, namely, the MPV and the SUV, be it large, medium or small in size.

In figures, the new 500L will feature a 5-seater mono-volume structure within a body that is 414 cm long, 178 cm wide and 166 cm high.

Engine offers will start with two petrol options (TwinAir and 1.4-litre) and one turbodiesel (1.3 MultiJet II).
